Exhibition: Dark Euphoria- Unclassified Media

Media artist Mitch Goodwin presents the creative component of his doctoral research, Dark Euphoria – The Neo Gothic Narrative of 20th Century Technoculture. A harrowing assemblage of the darker tendencies of the contemporary digital aesthetic and the larger meta-narrative of the mass media network. Plugin, Search, Download, Escape.

We are art. We are students (but not for long). Join us as we enter the world of art showcasing the best of the Bachelor of New Media Arts degree from James Cook University 2011.  This is no conventional exhibition; you will discover the diversity and passion through the graduating student’s creations, catering for all visitors’ tastes.  Enrich your senses as you experience the various disciplines of our degree.

Creative Exchange Event:  Scarecrow Productions & Up & See Hear Us (film, magazine & exhibition launch

Scarecrow Productions are launching a short animated film ‘Live a Little‘ at 6pm. While the team from UP Magazine will launch their magazine at 5:30pm which focuses on the local visual arts, photography, illustration, graphic design, painting and installations. Followed by ‘See Hear Us’ an exhibition of Indigenous art  at 6:30pm.

Creative Exchange Event:  Gelato & Amalfi (fashion show)

Blakke Productions are organising a mini fashion show titled Gelato & Amalfi. The clothing range is by well known fashionista Katelyn Aslett and Miss Elsie’s Wardrobe. Lookbooks will also be on display throughout the night.  Live music by Elle Graham, Ashley Sorenson and more!

Creative Exchange Event:  Townsville Nightlife Captured (photography & live music)

The Consortium Nightclub is a popular venue, and we aim to showcase our business by presenting an event there. Be Scene will have drink cards from the venue to be given away as prizes as well as wearing our own merchandise for promotion. We will be taking photos and handing out promotional material to enhance website awareness. This event will hold a well-known artist performing on the night, which will be the ultimate attraction for attendance.

Creative Exchange Event:  Children & Zombies (book launch)

3pm – 6pm Sun 13  Nov, 2011

Children and Zombies: A launch event of two very different books presented by Dead End and The Journey of Brannue.

Dead End is a graphic novel based in and around Townsville. It incorporates familiar Townsville landscapes, landmarks, and businesses. The graphic novel is based around a horror genre in which a group of uni students and Townsville residents band together to survive when an unknown virus turns the population into bloodthirsty cannibals. The Journey of Brannue is an illustrated folktale created specifically for contemporary digital platforms aimed at children reading at home or along with family who are 7 to 12 with a secondary target audience of students from 12 to 16 when implemented into an educational setting.

Creative Exchange Event:  Labyrinthine, Inhaus  & Madraw (live music & launch of albums & films)

7pm – late Fri  18 Nov, 2011

Live music and launch of albums recorded by Labyrinthine Productions  with film screenings of  ’Slop Rock- Go Go’ by Inhaus Entertainment and ’The Bedevilled’ by Mad Raw from 7:15pm (doors open at 7pm for the film screenings, and 7:30pm for the bands)

Creative Exchange Event:  Sounds Like Light (projection & live performance)

6:30pm – late Sat 19 Nov, 2011

Sounds Like Light is a one-night only projection exhibition featuring live performances by local musicians. The experimental collaborative project will feature projections created by emerging young artists and local musicians to create innovative motion graphics and short films. The event will also play host to launching the Cereal Box website.
Artists will be collaborating with other artists, musicians and space and light itself to create progressive works of video art to be projected throughout the venue, creating an ambient immersive environment.

Bands include: The Medics | Jarrod Mahon | Elle Graham | The Pöpli Kids | Pretty Visitors | The Bear Hunt | Cahill Kelly | Uncle Friday | Castle On a Hill

$10 entry, at the gate

Licensed all ages event, though minors are encouraged to be accompanied by a responsible adult.
